A bomb release from one of the Lancaster Bombers that took part in the Dambusters raid on May 17, 1943 has sold for £39,500 ($51,178).
Bomber ED 909 AJ-J scored one of the biggest hits on the Mohne dam
The lot originates from bomber ED 906 AJ-J, flown by David Maltby.
This was the fifth aircraft to make a run over the Mohne dam. It achieved the biggest hit.
The sale also featured a set of marbles used in the development of the bouncing bomb.
The lot made £18,500 ($23,963).
Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert commented: “We anticipated global interest in these evocative and iconic pieces of 20th century British history and I am pleased to report that interest exceeded expectation.”
