A French sale of Nazi memorabilia belonging to Adolf Hitler and Herman Goering has been cancelled following protests.
The lots due to cross the block at Vermot de Pas included Goering's official passport and a chest decorated with swastikas that belonged to Hitler.

The majority of items were seized from Hitler's home in the closing days of the second world war.
The CRIF, an association of French Jewish groups, commented that the sale was an insult to the memories of those murdered by the Nazis and that trading in such objects serves only to give them an unhealthy symbolic value.
Although this sale has been cancelled, auctions of Nazi memorabilia take place regularly in the UK and the US.
The trade remains a controversial and contentious issue.
