A number of lots scored high vales at Bonhams' Sporting and Golf Memorabilia auction, held in Chester on February 24.
Among the sought-after historic football items on sale were Stanley Matthews' boots, worn in the 1953 FA Cup Final.
The Blackpool winger's performance was so outstanding that the game is today known as the Matthews Final.
And the same Matthews' magic was still evident at Bonhams, where his iconic boots sold for over four times their estimated value.

The golden boots had a pre-sale estimate of £6,000-8,000 - but excitement in the stands saw them command an incredible final price of £38,400.
Matthews' boots also surpassed another highlight in the sale: one of two medals thrown by manager José Mourinho into the excited crowds at Stamford Bridge, following Chelsea's 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the 2005-6 Premier League Final.
With a Barclays Premiership ribbon attached, the unique nine carat medal realised £16,800.
