A rare Henry Cole Christmas card, the first commercial example ever printed, has sold for ?�4,200 ($6,857) at Henry Aldridge & Sons.
The auction took place on December 14 in Wiltshire, UK.

The card, which shows a family raising a toast, was produced in 1843 with 2,000 printed in colour and a handful in monochrome.
Before Henry Cole's Christmas card entered production, people either made their own or relied upon generic greetings cards that were available year round.
Only around 15 are known to exist today.
