Are you a fan of psychedelic rock, vintage soul or jazz? Because they're all going under the hammer at Philip Weiss auctions on June 11 in the form of collectible posters...
We're long-time advocates of the collectibility, and great investment virtues, of movie and music posters here at Paul Fraser Collectibles.
In fact, as our friend and interviewee Toby Walne, unique collectibles expert and Mail on Sunday columnist, once commented...
"Although prices have already gone stratospheric in the movie poster market, I can't help thinking those fabulous originals will always hold strong value as there is such a limited supply and we all love great movies" - Toby Walne
And, whether you can make it over to Oceanside, New York, US or are a fan of online bidding, it's your chance to get involved in the booming posters markets later this week...
Philip Weiss is offering you a chance to squeeze James Brown and his 18 piece band into your investment portfolio... |
Weiss's lots will include a collection of psychedelic art from the Vulcan Gas Company produced for the likes of Bubble Puppy and Janis Joplin, alongside memorabilia for the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and hippie legends the Grateful Dead.
Perhaps not surprisingly, collectors' favourites The Beatles and The Who will also make an appearance.
Also for sale is a collection of boxing-style cardboard concert posters from the Richmond area in the 1960s with James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave all going under the hammer.
The posters produced by the Globe Poster Company of Baltimore for venues like the Mosque Auditorium, the Sahara Club and City Stadium were originally stapled to telephone poles, so very few survived.
Fast-forward to the present day, and this rarity equals seriously good investment value for collectors.
This signed Nat King Cole concert program (detail) is among the very bankable autographed materials featured in the sale |
And as for the jazz? Posters for greats including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong and Illinois Jacquet will also appear in the sale. A Birdland Restaurant menu signed by Charlie Parker and many other musicians will be a featured item.
So there you have it, there's truly something for everyone in Philip Weiss's upcoming sale. Watch this space for more news on the auction.
