A fantastic collection of 95 rare teddy bears made ?95,000 ($148,972) at Special Auction Services in Newbury, UK on December 4.
|
The bears were collected by Jena Pang over 12 years, with over 30 examples made by the renowned manufacturer Steiff, famed for making fine quality toys. The top selling bear went for ?8,260 ($12,952), with just seven lots unsold.
Mr Pang told the BBC: "The auction was very pleasing. It was definitely sad to see the bears go, they were a big part of my life."
Mr Pang has said he will keep his first Steiff bear, Timmy, as a reminder of his collection.
Daniel Agnew from the auction house commented: "These are the best examples you are likely to see. They are all over 100 years old and in exceptional quality, they look like they were made yesterday."
However, Pang's bears are far from the most valuable, with many seeing upwards of $100,000 at auction. Check out Picollecta's 4 Very Valuable Bears for some of top sellers.
Pang said he first started collecting modern bears, but was encouraged to start collecting vintage bears due to their investment potential. Find out more about investing in collectibles.
