The costume worn by Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger has sold for an outstanding $195,000 at a Texas auction house.

A&S Auction Company sold the costume on July 12 as part of a western theme event in the "Lone Star State", with the costume one of the main attractions. It features the Lone Ranger's trademark powder blue shirt and pants, red handkerchief, cowboy hat, boots, gun belt and pistols.
Moore is said to have worn it after his retirement, when he made appearances as the Lone Ranger at local events, despite not having rights to the character.
Moore starred in the hit TV series between 1949 and 1957, with Tonto at his side.
The piece was consigned to auction by Earl Davis, son of collector Robert Davis, who bought it at auction 15 years ago.
Also featuring in the sale was a $165,000 sword that once belonged to Texan leader Sam Houston (1793-1863), the man responsible for Texas joining the United States, as well as a $47,000 Republic of Texas bronze seal, which was used to stamp land grants in the territory.
