A straw hat worn by the celebrated vaudeville star and comedian WC Fields is valued at upwards of $500.
This hat is consigned from the collection of Hollywood make-up artist William Tuttle
Fields was a key figure in Hollywood’s early years, appearing in his first recorded movie (Pool Sharks) in 1915.
This piece has great provenance, having been gifted to make-up artist William Tuttle by Ron Meyer, former CEO of Universal Studios.
It’s offered in Premiere Props’ Hollywood Extravaganza sale on December 9. Another of Fields’ hats (a very battered stovepipe) made $31,070 in a 2009 sale.
