Martin Luther King Signed Book
Martin Luther King Signed Book

I received this rare first-edition book yesterday.

And the timing of the delivery was uncanny.

Because it's a biography of a truly great man. The very first ever written.

And it arrived on his birthday.

A day celebrated across the U.S to commemorate his life.

I am of course talking about Martin Luther King Jr.

A towering figure of the 20th century.

King is inarguably one of the most important people of the 20th century.

He's a towering figure in American history.

An esteemed winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

And his words have inspired millions around the world to stand peacefully against injustice.

His name belongs next to Nelson Mandela and Gandhi.

Men whose bravery, vision and sacrifice symbolise a simple idea:

That every human being has the right to live in freedom, peace and dignity.

King's name carries a weight of significance that goes beyond history.

And as a collector, his signature has real gravitas.

There are few modern autographs that mean more than this one.

So when I received this book, I was naturally excited to see what was inside.

I knew what I was expecting...

But what I found blew me away.

Here's what I discovered.

Martin Luther King SignatureThe perfect Martin Luther King autograph.

It's absolutely the finest example I've ever offered.

The condition is stunning. You won't find a better specimen.

Signed beautifully on a blank page in crisp black ink.

It's bold, clear and elegant. Unfaded by time.

And without the distraction of a personal dedication or inscription.

Just the name of one of the greatest figures of the 20th century.

Written by his hand more than half a century ago.

When you hold this book in your hands...

It's a powerful thing to see this signature in front of you.

I was struck by the emotion I felt when I opened it for the first time.

You can't help but be moved by what it represents.

And if rare autographs are your passion, that's what every piece in your collection should give you.

The buzz of excitement. I'm sure you know it well.

That personal connection to history that you feel in your fingertips.

Because it's a joy and a privilege to own items like this one.

And I'm delighted to offer it to you today.

An exceptional find.

The book that contains this superb signature is also worthy of note.

It's a rare and highly collectible first edition of Crusader Without Violence.

The first-ever biography of Martin Luther King, published in 1959.

It was written by Dr. Lawrence D. Reddick, a member of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery where King served as pastor.

Reddick was a historian and a close friend who witnessed King's rise to prominence first-hand.

He stood alongside him during the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott, which transformed the American Civil Rights movement in 1956.

Reddick's book was critically acclaimed, and helped bring King's story to a wider national audience.

But it also cost him his job as Chair of History at Alabama State College.

So the story behind this book adds greatly to the value of the signature inside it.

It's also the sole signed copy of Crusader Without Violence I've ever come across - and the only one available on the market today.

So that tells you how rare and significant this book really is.

It's an exceptional find for collectors.

And undoubtedly an item which will hold its value for years to come.

Rarity - and record prices.

Martin Luther king's autograph has been described as “the ultimate piece for collectors and institutions”.

But examples rarely appear for sale.

When a logbook he signed during his incarceration in Birmingham Jail went up for auction in February 2021, it sparked a bidding war between 28 collectors.

It eventually sold for a record $130,000. 13 times its estimate.

And in November 2022, a signed copy of King's 1958 book Strides Towards Freedom sold for $50,000.

The final price was more than four times the high estimate, and set a new world record price for a Martin Luther King signed book.

As you can see, demand for his signature is incredibly strong.

So you will rarely get the chance to own an example of this quality.
