Collectors can recreate the atmosphere of Rick's Café Americain as Bonhams offers a number of props from Casablanca on November 24 in New York.
|
The props include the main entrance doors to the famous café, where much of the film is set. Valued at $75,000-100,000, they have been painted green (as opposed to the original wood) but remain an important item from the celebrated film.
Also starring is a lamp from the café, valued at $30,000-50,000, which can be seen in the first shot of Rick (Humphrey Bogart) while he is playing chess.

A chair from one of the tables in the café is estimated to bring $4,000-6,000, while the outdoor chair that Louis Renault sits in as he teases Rick ("How extravagant you are, throwing away women like that. Someday they may be scarce") is expected to sell for $5,000-7,000.
A Moroccan-style hardwood screen, featured in the café, and identical to the one seen in Rick's office during several important scenes, will sell at $30,000-50,000.
The star lot of the sale is the piano from Casablanca, on which Dooley Wilson plays As Time Goes By. It is expected to exceed $1m, outselling another piano seen in the film, which sold for $602,500 at Bonhams in 2012.
Paul Fraser Collectibles has a pair of Humphrey Bogart's jodhpurs for sale.
