Heritage Auctions will offer puppets, models and props from the 2009 animated film Coraline in its forthcoming The Art of LAIKA auction.

The LAIKA studio has received nominations for the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards

The sale will be held on February 12 in Beverly Hills, offering more than 250 lots from the award-winning animation studio behind Coraline, as well as The Boxtrolls and ParaNorman.

"LAIKA is known for its artistry and revolutionary stop-motion animation techniques," says Jim Lentz, Heritage Auctions' director of animation art.

"The studio's legions of die-hard fans regularly ask LAIKA for the opportunity to own some of the masterfully engineered puppets, props and other artwork used to make these beloved films. So the studio is finally offering a specially curated collection of items from its production archives. This is the chance that those fans, and animation and film collectors of all stripes, have been waiting for."

This is the first time the studio has offered any of its creations, with proceeds to benefit The Art of Elysium, a non-profit arts organisation.

Among the highlights will be the original Coraline puppet in her blue-starred sweater, as well as the Evil Other Mother production, both fantastically realised and great examples of LAIKA's work.

Also featuring will be the Norman production puppet from Paranorman in baseball shirt outfit, as well as the Zombie Judge puppet. The auction will also host the largest prop ever created for a stop-motion film, Snatcher's Mecha-Drill from The Boxtrolls, which measures over five feet.
