Daniel Day-Lewis may have only recently won the best actor award at the Golden Globes for his new film Lincoln, but already memorabilia from the movie is hitting the market.

The film, which focuses on Abraham Lincoln's struggle during the US civil war, will not be released in UK cinemas until January 25. However, a charity auction of rare props is to take place at the film's European premiere on January 20 in Dublin.
The items have been donated by director Steven Spielberg as a favour to Day-Lewis, in support of a project by the Wicklow Hospice Foundation to build a new hospice in County Wicklow. Day-Lewis has long been a patron of the foundation and currently resides in Dublin.
So far the foundation has raised €2.4m ($3.2m) of the €3m ($4m) required to build the new hospice, with the auction expected to push funds past the total.

Included in the sale is a leather bound hardback copy of the shooting script, which has been signed by all of the principal actors, as well as the white gloves worn by Day-Lewis in the film, which have been signed by the actor. They join a photograph and poster, both signed by Day-Lewis and Spielberg.
The foundation's chairman, Brendan Cuddihy, told the Irish Examiner newspaper that the charity had been overwhelmed by interest from the US, adding: "Props of this quality never come on the market and are closely protected by movie studios. Now that Lincoln is hotly tipped to scoop multi-Academy awards, we're being told the value is even higher."
Email bids received before the auction will set the reserve for an item, and will become the winning bid should it not see a higher price during the sale. The foundation hopes to make any unsold lots available online following the Dublin premiere.
