Important props from Spike Lee's 1989 movie Do The Right Thing will go on sale at Bonhams New York on November 24, with the iconic Radio Raheem boombox set to star.
|
The collection comes from the estate of noted film critic Gene Siskel, who was given the props by Spike Lee himself. The boombox, valued at $3,000-5,000, is inscribed "To Gene, Radio Raheem Lives/'Fight the Power'/Love Spike.
Seen throughout the film, the boombox is covered in Public Enemy stickers and is continually blasting the band's Fight the Power. It is also the catalyst for the film's climax, with Danny Aiello's character Sal destroying it, provoking a lethal dispute.
Also featuring is the Sal's Famous Pizzaria uniform shirt worn by Spike Lee as Mookie, which is expected to sell for $1,000-1,500.
Among Siskel's most prized possession is a 39-page transcript of his 1972 interview with heralded director Stanley Kubrick, which Kubrick himself has annotated, returning it to Siskel with a handwritten letter.
Discussing a range of subjects, including Kubrick's films 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange, the piece provides a fascinating insight into the director and his views. It will sell with a $3,000-5,000 estimate.
Paul Fraser Collectibles has a great range of music memorabilia for sale.
