On December 6 in Dallas, Heritage Auctions will sell the suit that Gene Kelly wore while splashing around in Singin' in the Rain, as part of the Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction.

The suit still bears the water marks from Kelly's iconic musical number as Don Lockwood. Originally acquired at the now-famous 1970 MGM auction, it is valued at more than $20,000.
The consignor is a retired postal worker and collector named Gerald Sola, who saw an advertisement for MGM's sale of props and memorabilia and immediately bought a catalogue.
"I had the best time of my whole life. In fact, if there was one thing I could do over again from my life, it would be that, just because it was so much fun. It was like dying and going to heaven," Sola told Art Daily.

"I took it off the rack and looked at it. I noticed right away that there were water stains in the jacket. I knew right away what it was from so I bought it."
The jacket is labelled "Metro-Goldwyn-May/Gene Kelly/No. 1546-8565" inside and cost Sola just $10. As Heritage Auctions states, he "now stands to make get a return on that investment a few thousand times over".
Also featuring in the sale is a signed copy of the Beatles' Please Please Me, and Elvis' acoustic guitar.
