The world's largest collection of movie memorabilia and posters, that of Morris Everett Jr, has been showcased at this year's San Diego Comic-Con ahead of its sale at Profiles in History on December 17.

Everett's collection is also a big money earner, with his images regularly licensed by magazines for publication

The collection includes posters from nearly every movie ever made, with over 195,000 items from over 44,000 films. In a December auction sure to be remembered by collectors for some years, Everett's collection is valued at $6m-8m.

Morris Everett Jr began collecting 50 years ago and has been doggedly pursuing as many movie posters as he can lay his hands on since. His collection incorporates lobby cards and other ephemera, as well as movie stills and images.

Turning his collection into a lucrative business, Everett licenses the rights to his images to international media outlets; Time magazine's cover shot of Frank Sinatra to mark his death was one of Everett's images, as well as National Enquirer's shot of Michael Jackson, which featured in 2009.

"The Morris Everett Jr. Collection is the most substantial and significant vintage movie collection in the world and will feature several-one-of-kind treasures never before offered to the collecting public," noted Joseph Maddalena, president and chief executive officer of Profiles in History.

"The items exemplify classic Hollywood, reflecting the true lure of Hollywood's Golden Age. These limited distribution pieces were produced for a number of Hollywood's greatest movies and are seldom seen today."

Among the rarest and most desirable pieces in the collection are those from Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush (1925); Wizard of Oz (1939); Grand Hotel (1932); Snow White (1937); Gone With the Wind (1939; The Unholy Three (1925), Faust (1926), Casablanca (1942) Frankenstein (1931) and Metropolis (1925).
