The film was an instant hit and has gone down in history as one of the greatest movies of all time.
Lon Chaney in his role as Erik the Phantom remains one of the most iconic monsters in Hollywood history.
A total of eight posters were designed, of which this is considered the most desirable as it is the only one to show the phantom's face.
Four are known to exist, with the present example the only one available on the private market. It was formerly owned by actor Nicholas Cage.
An insert poster for The Wolf Man (1941) is valued at $30,000-60,000.
The film was released in an attempt to kick-start Universal's ailing fortunes after a failed attempt to move out of the horror game. It starred Lon Chaney alongside Bela Lugosi and Warren Williams.
The lot is in exceptional condition, marred only by a small tear at the centre.
An insert poster for Casablanca (1942) will prove another highlight, with an estimate of $20,000-40,000.
In 2012, the upright piano on which Dooley Wilson plays As Time Goes By in the film sold for $602,500.
