Selling as part of the Vintage Movie Poster Signature Auction on July 19-20 in Dallas, the poster is described by the auction house as "a work of art" adding, "Serious collectors, here's your chance to possess a collection-defining piece!"
Mounted on linen, the poster is in stunning condition with a touch-up to the artwork and a tear in the left border. It last appeared at Heritage in 2005, selling for an unknown sum, and some top collectors have been waiting for it to reappear ever since.
The films tells the story of a peasant from the German countryside that moves to Berlin and becomes a nude model, subsequently facing the harsh realities of city.
Released in 1933, The Song of Songs was Dietrich's first film without her mentor and director Josef von Sternberg and marks an important transition in her dazzling career.
With Universal's monster movies ever popular among poster collectors, the three-sheet poster for The Mummy's Hand (1940) will also star among the auction's top lots. Graded Fine + on linen, this is an excellent opportunity to gain one of the rarest from the Universal horror series.
