The original surfboard pictured with the Beach Boys on the cover of their landmark debut album, Surfin' Safari, has been put up for sale.

The board features not only on the cover of the band's debut album, but also on the follow-up, 1963's Surfer Girl, and several photo shoots.
Rumour suggests the board belonged to Dennis Wilson, who was the only member of the band who actually surfed.
It is valued at $150,000, sold through Rockaway Records on behalf of super fan Bob Stafford. It was given to him from Dennis Wilson's close friend Louis Marotta, who received it from Wilson himself in the 1970s.

The board comes to sale fresh from being displayed at the Good Vibrations: 50 Years of the Beach Boys exhibition at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
The 1962 photo shoot in which the board appears was the band's first ever as professional musicians, having recently signed with Capitol Records.
The man behind the lens was Ken Veeder, who is responsible for some of the greatest photos of the band, now instantly recognisable to fans.

The board is one of the finest pieces of Beach Boys memorabilia ever seen. Despite their popularity, memorabilia from the band is exceedingly rare, with the news of a recently discovered $1m archive exciting fans in March 2013.
