The umbrella Britney Spears famously used to beat a paparazzo’s car in 2007 is among the most unusual lots in RR Auction's upcoming sale.
The event took place during a prolonged and highly publicised breakdown that saw the star hounded by the press.
Britney Spears tried to break a paparazzo's car window with this umbrella
At the time Britney Spears was one of the biggest names in pop music. She was recently divorced and suffering with mental health and substance abuse issues.
Days before the incident in the LA parking lot, she had shaved her head bald in a California hair salon.
The lot is consigned by the paparazzo in question, Daniel Ramos, who explains: "She went to the gas station and I told her ‘we were concerned for her.’
"We then went to Jiffy Lube and Britney’s cousin Ali Simms came out of the drivers seat and approached me and held my video camera down and told me ‘Guys please don’t, please…’
“…that’s when Britney Spears came out of the passenger side and grabbed the green umbrella from the backseat and came after all of us, then threw the umbrella down on the pavement."
It’s difficult to feel much sympathy for Mr Ramos. That said, he has promised to donate 50% of the proceeds from the sale to charity.
With an estimate of $50,000-60,000, the umbrella looks set to become one of the biggest sales of a piece of 21st century memorabilia.
