Furious John Lennon letter to beat $20,000?

A furious letter John Lennon wrote to Paul and Linda McCartney circa 1971 will cross the block at RR Auction tomorrow.

It looks set to sell for around $20,000.

John Lennon letter
John Lennon was clearly fuming when he wrote this letter

Lennon sent it in response to a letter from Linda McCartney attacking him for not announcing his departure from the Beatles, among other transgressions.

However, as Lennon explains, Paul and the band's new manager Allen Klein had asked him to keep quiet.

Written through gritted teeth, it begins: "I was reading your letter and wondering what middle aged cranky Beatle fan wrote it…

"I resisted looking at the last page to find out—I kept thinking who is it…What the hell—it's Linda!"

He then tears into the couple over a number of paragraphs, for buying into the band's mythology and for their treatment of Yoko Ono.

He closes with a postscript chastising them for "addressing your letter just to me—STILL….!!!"

The lot shows the depth of the acrimony between Lennon and McCartney after the breakup, including their mutual dislike of the other's partner.

They soon reconciled though and met up several times before Lennon was killed in 1980.

The sale also features the last document Lennon ever signed and a notebook belonging to jazz legend Miles Davis.
