Yesterday evening (December 2) several sequinned and spangled jackets and gloves, including a Bad tour jacket, as well as various other articles of Michael Jackson's stage and screen attire, went under the hammer in Beverly Hills.
The selection of Jackson's costumes, which were designed by Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, brought more than $5m.
Lady Gaga, similarly famed for her outlandish and often eccentric sense of style, is known to have bought a considerable slice of the collection, declaring on Twitter: "The fifty five pieces I collected today will be archived and expertly cared for in the spirit and love of Michael Jackson, his bravery and his fans worldwide."
Pick of the lots was the late singer's Bad tour jacket, which sold for $240,000 - twice its high estimate of $120,000, and Jackson's Dangerous tour jacket, which also well exceeded its high estimate of $80,000, selling at $216,000.
There is no word on whether these two items were among Gaga's purchases.

Two individual crystal gloves also performed well: a "fantasy" glove created for the singer by Bill Whitten sold for $200,000 after it was estimated to be worth $192,000, and a white cotton right hand glove with an interior label reading "Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush" carried an estimate of $50,000 and achieved $155,200.
The sale showcased more than 800 lots, simultaneously documenting Jackson's sartorial evolution and testifying to his enduring popularity.
Mimicking Jackson's style, following the sale Lady Gaga posted a picture of herself holding up her auction paddle, her hand encased in a bejewelled white glove.
A forthcoming Jackson auction, which is set to star the jacket worn in the video for the 1983 single Beat It, will take place on December 18. The December 2 results suggest these Jackson-related lots will also do well.
