A 1959 Gibson Series L Prince used to record a series of demo tracks in the early 1970s is up for auction at Nate D Sanders.
It's consigned from the collection of Prince's former manager, Owen Husney.
|
Prince recorded his first demo tape in Minneapolis in 1975, but was unable to secure a contract. He brought it to Husney, a local businessman, who signed on as his manager and helped him get signed to Warner Brothers.
The rest is history.
The guitar can be seen in numerous photographs of the time and is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Husney.
It's valued in excess of $60,000 ahead of a March 17 close date.
The lot is part of a major selection of Prince memorabilia offered in the auction.
Also included is a set of Lenox china emblazoned with the Prince symbol that was produced for his marriage to his former wife Mayte Garcia.
It's offered from Garcia's own collection and is expected to beat $50,000.
The wedding took place in Minneapolis on Valentine's Day in 1996 and was a suitably flamboyant event, with white doves released as they exchanged their vows.
