An 1899 Straits Settlement 4c is valued at $22,269-29,693 ahead of an auction at Spink Singapore.
The lot is one of nine surviving "surcharge omitted" specimens to bear this date and denomination.
|
The surcharges were introduced due to shortages of stamps in the Straits throughout the 1800s.
The region comprised modern day Malaysia and Singapore.
It remained a British crown colony until 1946, barring a short occupation by the Japanese in 1942-1945.
The auction will take place on September 10.
We have an 1892 Straits Settlement 32c surcharge omitted stamp for sale.
