A 1917 Russian Ulankom cover is to provide one of the top lots in Spink's January 18 sale in Hong Kong, with a valuation of $64,450-90,231.

The Ulankom post office stood in a remote region of Mongolia

Ulankom is a town in Mongolia that was the site of a Russian post office for less than a year. It was opened in 1917 and closed immediately after the October Revolution on November 7-8.

The cover is the only recorded piece of mail to pass through the office, making it highly desirable to collectors of Russian postal history.
