1918 US postal stamp is worth $26k

Robert A Seigel Auction Galleries' United States stamps auction ran from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon (December 16-18).

The sale included a few stamps which sold for five figures; but a major stand-out among them was a 1918 US postage stamp, the 3c Dark Violet, Ty II.

The 3c Dark Violet, Ty II sold for an incredible $26k

Boasting a very fine appearance and deep, rich colour to accompany the "Caldwell New Jersey" imprint across its face, this exceedingly rare stamp sold for an impressive $26,000.

According to Seigel, they know of only seven other stamps like it - so not even slight creases could stop it from selling for such a high amount.
