A US 1934 $1 hunting permit block of six has auctioned for $5,000.
The rare item, in "fine-very fine" condition, according to auctioneer Robert A Siegel, was one of the star lots of Thursday's Curtis Collection sale of US revenue stamps.

Hunting permits are highly collectible - especially those from the first year of issue such as this.
The stamps are issued to wildfowl hunters to this day, with the revenue helping maintain wildlife preserves.
The October 1 sale also featured a never hinged $1 hunting permit block of six from 1935. It made $3,500.
