As we've reported, Robert A Siegel auction galleries will be offering The Gordon Eubanks Collection of the U.S. 1869 Pictorial Issue on March 1 including an extraordinary 90c Carmine & Black block.
Rather than relax after that, however, they've followed it up with a sale based around one of the earlier stamps in the world: the City Despatch Post.
For the moment, let's take a look at just one lot in their magnificent 300+ lot auction.

A complete sheet of 42 3c Black on Grayish City Despatch Post is immediately impressive with itsoriginal gum, with just some very minor paper adherence along the right, and sporting large margins except for where the frameline is just touched at the upper right.
Very fresh and sound except for a small sealed tear between stamps at upper left, the sheet is extremely fine, and one of five recorded complete sheets of the 1842 3-cent City Despatch Post stamp.
Siegel records show five complete sheets of the City Despatch Post stamp issued by Alexander M. Greig in 1842.
The sheet offered here is ex Caspary, Lilly, Boker, Klein, Golden and Gordon N. John, and at its estimate of $25,000-35,000 offers an excellent investment. Siegel's sale takes place on March 2 in New York and online.
