An archive of extremely rare stamp proofs from Gibraltar collected over 14 years is to be auctioned for more than £500,000, according to Universal Philatelic Auctioneers (UPA), United Kingdom.
The sale will feature stamp proofs (the prototype designs made before they are approved) from the island between 1995-2000.
The stamp artwork features popular icons like Ghandi, JFK and Prince Harry, and individual lots are expected to sell for £1,000s a piece.
The sale is being held on behalf of the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau Ltd (GPBL).
UPA auctioneer Andrew MacGavin says this is a once in a lifetime chance for investors to acquire stamp art that may never be sold again, and could disappear forever into private collections.
"The stamps and artwork being auctioned here are genuinely one of a kind, and that makes them a sensible future investment," he says.
"In the years to come the value of these stamps may rise. These aren't just rare or limited edition items. They are the original printer's proofs and artwork, meaning there are no other copies around."
Official archives like the Gibraltar collection are normally offered though major Swiss-type auction houses.
"Buying a proof for £200 at a Swiss-type auction could cost you another £65 for delivery, import VAT and buyer's premium," said Mr McGavin.

Universal Philatelic Auctions are based in Northleach, Gloucestershire in the UK.
The sale is already attracting enthusiasm from philatelists.
"It is extremely rare for original artwork like this to be sold, especially from an official collection. That is what makes this a once in a generation sale," said Mr McGavin.
"We are seeing unprecedented levels of interest from both stamp collectors and investors."
The auction is set to close on Tuesday, October 27.
