Platinum Philately's online Auction #1 is currently offering top single lots of classic philately from numerous countries and areas, including China, the Colonies and British Commonwealth, until August 16.
Stamps from Austria, German States, Italian States, France, Thailand and Japan are also appearing with "quality and authenticity... the main features," according to the auction house.
Among many rarities for sale is the Bulgarian 1890 50c, bisected on a cover originally sent from Philipopoli to Galata, Constantinople. It is apparently one of only three known.

Clearly visible in the envelope's top-left corner is the immensely rare bisect of the 50s blue and pink 1882 issue stamp, Michel number 18, tied by a black Philipopoli handstamp dated June 21, 1890. The cover's arrival in Istanbul is evident on its reverse.
Described by Platinum Philately as "totally flawless in all respects," this unlisted bisect on cover constitutes by far one of the greatest classic rarities of Bulgarian and indeed European philately.
Previously, a similar cover from the Herbert Bloch collection was auctioned by Steltzer Auction on May 23, 1990 for DM 9,100 - the equivalent of around €5,000 today.

One of only three known examples, the cover will sell with a 1951 P.V. Karaivanoff certificate of authenticity and offers collectors a major opportunity to acquire an item which is virtually never offered on the market.
Given its rarity, the bisected Bulgarian 1890 50c on cover will is appearing in Platinum Philately's sale with a relatively modest estimate of €4,000.
Considering a similar cover sold for more 15 years ago, this specimen is certainly worth keeping eye on. Online bidding is available, and closes on August 16.
