Regency Superior makes it their trademark to create interesting combination auctions which mix not only autographs but coins and memorabilia of various kinds into one. Another such auction, featuring space and aviation memorabilia is now open for bids.
Naturally we'll bring you the details of the space memorabilia closer to the time, but some of the highlights from their US stamp section include:
One of the highlights of the United States section is a rare position piece with the 1908 5¢ Lincoln (Scott #315) imperforate centre line block and the four matching corner arrow blocks - all mint never hinged, and offered as a single auction lot.
|
Fewer than six such sets can be assembled as such due to the way the 33 issued sheets of 400 were cut and distributed. The Philatelic Foundation has certified one centre line block and that was hinged, so no more than five mint, never hinged sets can be put together and the number is very likely smaller still.
The set carries an estimate of $20,000. All the stamps included are post office fresh, and very fine to extremely fine in condition.
Lincoln fans will also have the opportunity to lay their hands on an earlier example: an 1869 Lincoln 90¢ Carmine & Black, without grill (Jumbo).
This gorgeous unused stamp, with deep, rich colours has extraordinary centring and ranks as a 'superb gem' according to the auctioneer. This sells with a listing of $17,500.
Watch this space for more news of this intriguing auction, which takes place on October 14-16. The Californian auction house is offering full online bidding as always.
