Here's a quick reminder to watch this space for forthcoming results on Spink Shreves' July 2010 Collectors Series stamp auction, which wraps up tomorrow (July 23).
Among the hidden gems in the auction is this 5c Violet brown on gray blue ribbed paper, all the way from Nashville, Tennessee.
The cover is billed by Spink Shreves as being of "magnificent quality", and bears an exceptionally fresh horizontal pair of 5c Violet stamps in bright red-brown shade, on strongly blued paper with enormous margins all around.
This exceptional and rare pair is affixed to a spectacular blue cameo illustrated advertising cover of John Morrow and Son, a Nashville merchant which specialised in saddles and coach-ware.

The cover was posted to Murfreesboro, North Carolina, as evidenced by the central and unobtrusive strike of a single stamp which reads: "Nashville/Ten./Oct. 17, 1861."
Although part of the addressee's name has been eradicated over time, this historic piece of US philately is still billed as "extremely fine" by Spink Shreves.
Nashville Postmaster provisional covers with this marvelous eye appeal are of the greatest rarity - making its estimated sales price of just $10,000-15,000 all the more remarkable.

Selling with a 1980 PF certificate to verify its quality and authenticity, this cover is a perfect entry-level investment for philatelists with a passion for United States postal history.
