A set of Russian hunger relief stamps, issued in the city of Rostov-on-Don, are valued at $45,000 ahead of a sale at Cherrystone Auctions in New York on February 20.
The exceptionally rare lot will provide one of the highlights of the sale of the Igor Gorski Collection.

The issue was produced unofficially in the town of Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia in 1922, with the intention that proceeds from the sale of each stamp would go to those suffering the effects of a recent famine.
Around 740 sheets were printed, which the authorities in Moscow swiftly confiscated, although they were later authorised for sale.
