The "Lionheart" stamp collection of Great Britain and the British Empire made £11,000 ($16,805) at Spink's London saleroom on April 17.
|
The collection includes philatelic gems from the furthest reaches of the British Empire, including Antigua, the Cayman Islands, the Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Dating from 1903 to 1911, highlights of the bound collection include a mint Antigua 1903-O7 CC 1/2d, a Fiji 1903 CA 1/2d and a Lagos 1904 CA 1/2d.
Although condition varied throughout the album, the better issues buoyed the value of several more damaged rarities.
