A 1934 De Havilland DH84 Dragon biplane is heading to auction on September 9.
With an estimate of more than £200,000 ($258,260), it’s set to be among the stars of Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival Meeting sale.
Only a few DH84 Dragons are still in working order
The lot is consigned from the collection of British businessman, philanthropist and skydiver Sir Torquil Norman (born 1933), who bought and restored it in the late 1990s.
It’s one of five operational examples of this plane in existence.
The model was designed for both civilian and military clients.
Some were used as short haul passenger planes while others were employed as scouts and troop carriers.
This example was previously deployed by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a navigational trainer.
James Knight, Bonhams’ chairman of motoring, said: "The DH 84 was the executive jet of its day.
“Its ability to cover great distances with at least six passengers and land almost anywhere ensured it was the must have aircraft of the period – for personal, commercial and military use.
“In fact, weather permitting, we hope to have the Dragon on view at Goodwood.
“As you can imagine, it is beautifully presented, harking back to the glory days of aviation, and ready to be operated by the next enthusiast owner."
Another working DH84 Dragon sold for £124,700 ($161,025) at Bonhams in 2015.
