A flag taken to the Moon and back by Apollo 12 auctioned online in a sale organised by New York's Philip Weiss Auctions, earlier this week.
The US stars 'n' stripes flag went under the hammer with an estimate of $1,000-2,000 as part of an auction of rare NASA memorabilia.
Carried to the Ocean of Storms on the lunar surface by astronauts Charles Conrad Jr and Alan Bean in November 1969, the lot exceeded its top estimate with a final price of $2,500.

Presented in a frame, the three inches by six inches flag is accompanied by an inscription on silver paper marker card.
"Apollo 12, November 1969, Charles Conrad Jr, Richard F. Gordon Jr, Alan J. Bean," it reads.
"This flag was carried to the moon by the crew of Apollo 12, November 19, 1969, Ocean of Storms."
The inscription was written by a former NASA employee, who consigned a number of items in the sale.
