The lot is expected to make close to $9,000 ahead when the auction closes on July 30.
Due to the extreme danger of the Apollo 11 mission, and the fact no insurer would cover the expedition, a number of covers were produced and signed. They would have been sold in the event of a disaster and the proceeds given to the families.
Fortunately the mission was a success and the covers are now coveted items of memorabilia.
Another example that was actually flown to the Moon sold for $50,788 in 2013.
