RR Auction is to sell a chain of office worn by a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the 1936 Berlin Games.
The chain is adorned with medallions illustrating different sporting events.
It was intended to be worn at subsequent Games.
Around 60 of these chains were made for members of the IOC
The plan was to keep them in a bank vault in Berlin.
However, many of the IOC members decided to take them home as souvenirs.
The auction house comments: “It is believed that there were 60 of these produced, but far fewer are known to exist today…
“Following World War II, only nine of the chains were said to have been recovered from the Berlin vault, and a comprehensive 2012 article, ‘An endless Olympic Chain’ by Karl Lennartz, enumerated only six known chains today.”
It’s expected to make in excess of $45,000.
The Olympic Memorabilia Auction also features a Garmisch 1936 Winter Olympics silver winner’s medal, which is valued at more than $30,000.
The lot is one of only 36 medals made for the event, making it one of the rarest Olympic medals on the market.
This would be the last time the winter and summer Olympics would be hosted in the same nation.
The auction closes on July 20.
