The 1948 Sykes bat was used by Bradman in his last first class innings on Australian soil as captain, shortly before his "Invincibles" team headed to England to secure the Ashes. It made $45,715, a 150% increase on its $18,286 estimate.
The bat's appeal was further enhanced by the signatures of the entire 1948 Australian team.
