A Rio 2016 Olympic gold medal is set to make £45,000-55,000 ($58,093-71,000) at Graham Budd Auctions in London on May 15.
This is the first Rio 2016 gold medal sold at public auction.
The Rio 2016 medal is one of 307 golds handed out during the Games
The consignor, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of 307 gold medallists during the Games.
It’s worth noting that it’s extremely rare for Olympic athletes to sell off their medals so soon after the event, although the practice is becoming more common.
Last year, a London 2012 gold medal consigned by another anonymous athlete realised $55,831 at RR Auction.
