Rapper Tupac Shakur’s ticket to the boxing match he attended the night of his murder has auctioned.
The unique piece of memorabilia sold for $24,500 at Goldin Auctions on January 29.
The Las Vegas bout saw Mike Tyson defeat Bruce Sheldon on September 7, 1996.
Shakur's murderer remains unknown
On leaving the MGM Grand following the contest, Shakur and his entourage got into an altercation with Orlando “Baby Face” Anderson, a member of the Crips gang (Shakur was connected with rival gang the Bloods).
From there, Shakur headed to Club 662, owned by Death Row records – the label that published his music.
As the convoy waited at lights, a car pulled alongside and shot several rounds into Shakur's vehicle. He would die in hospital six days later.
“This is the very ticket Tupac used to gain entrance to the fight," explained Goldin prior to the auction.
"'Tupac' has been written in an unknown hand just above the seat number, most likely by someone in the box office.”
The auction also featured a sexually explicit letter Shakur wrote to a woman known only as "Pac".
"The letter describes the sexual gymnastics that Tupac wishes to perform with his partner, in extremely lurid detail," explains the auctioneer.
The letter, which includes a puzzling reference to "a tray of ice and some honey", sold for $34,300.
An essay Shakur wrote from prison achieved $172,275 last year.
