Simpson Galleries' sale of Fine Art and Antiques from an important Houston Collection included this singular historic specimen originating from Africa.
This African lion rug, felt backed with a full head mount, comes from the collection of the late John Connally, Governor of Texas.

One-hundred-and-eight inches in length, the rug sold with a certificated signed by Mr and Mrs Connally.
Its final hammer price was $4,250 at Simpson's sale, yesterday (Sunday, April 11).
