Christie's today sold New York's most famous street sign, a vintage cast iron relic from the corner of Broad and Wall Street, for $116,500.
It was estimated at $60,000-80,000, and eventually won by a phone bidder.
The sign is made of an original cast iron mounting bracket composed of four interlocking frame pieces. Each enamel sign shows original wear - including damage on the Wall Street sign from the notorious 1920 bombing.
Once located in the Financial District, in front of the original JP Morgan and Co building, the Wall Street sign stood at the epicentre of some of the most eventful times in US financial history.

At noon on September 16, 1920, this corner was the scene of the Wall Street bombing, when an explosive was placed in front of the bank killing 38 and injuring several hundred.
Probably the most memorable time in financial history was in October 1929. Crowds gathered at the intersection of Wall and Broad streets after the Stock Market crash in shock and disbelief.
