A fully road worthy Batmobile is the star of the Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale event this weekend, hosted by Auctions America by RM.
The Batmobile was built as a promotional vehicle for Warner Brothers' 1995 movie Batman Forever, which starred Val Kilmer.
The car, which goes under the hammer on Saturday March 5, has a Chevrolet V8 engine, fiberglass body and a custom built tubular chassis.
The body mould cost a reported $2.5m but the car has a high end estimate of $275,000, a price tag that may well interest classic car investors. Its current owner acquired it in 2007 for $297,000.
Batman memorabilia is a big favourite with collectors: the Batmobile from the 1960s Batman television series sold for $223,000 in February 2007 while last year the Batman costume worn by Michael Keaton in the 1992 Batman Returns achieved $44,800.

The auction will also feature a rare 1963 Shelby Cobra CSX 2080 and a 1957 Chrysler Imperial Convertible once owned by Howard Hughes. It comes with a top end estimate of $140,000.
