Perhaps more than any other field of collectibles, toys and games invoke nostalgia, and the feeling of re-capturing the recent past, and Thomson and Roddick Scottish Auctions' sale on Thursday (August 5) covers a good few recent decades.
With a grand range of 308 lots on offer, the focus is on Toys, Models and Model Railways, with a number of classic brand names well represented. In particular, there are a number of diecast vehicles, particularly from Corgi and also from Dinky.
Dinky have increasingly proved themselves as an investment-grade asset in recent years with the price creeping up steadily. But it may well be that the greatest increase in value is yet to come from Corgi and Matchbox, (also well-represented) which have some younger devotees.

Hornby train sets are also highly coveted, and lots of varying quality are on offer for those here too. Again a distinctly more modern cousin of the train set, Scalextric, is also represented, with three boxes of cars and two sets including the Grand Prix set are both on offer, and Scalextric is definitely becoming more collectible all the time.
Rounding off the sale is a set of toys with a less British character: an extensive set of Marvel and DC figures, both heroes and villains - all in their original boxes. With the extraordinary results in the corresponding collectible comics this year, many eyes will be focused in on these.
The sale takes place in Cumbria, starting in the morning. Absentee bidding is available.
