$50k for A Lange & Sohne's 'first' automatic watch

Arriving in 2010 is A Lange & Sohne's first-ever automatic watch in its Lange 1 range: the Daymatic.

The production of an automatic model is unusual for the German luxury watchmaker, which normally prefers beautifully decorated, traditional movements within its timepieces.

Nevertheless, automatic movements are more convenient and popular, so here it is: made up of 426 parts with a 50 hours power reserve.

To mark the change, the power reserve indicator normally found on all manually-wound Lange watches has been replaced with a day of the week indicator.

The display has also been inverted, meaning that the Daymatic's watch face is to the right of the dial, instead of the traditional left.

A Lange & Sohne's Lange 1 Daymatic will likely be priced in the range of $50,000 when it hits the market in the New Year.
