The Jewel of Kashmir has set a new world record for a Kashmir sapphire.

The 27.68-carat sapphire and diamond ring auctioned for $6.7m at Sotheby's Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale on October 7.
That is a price-per-carat auction record for a Kashmir sapphire.
The sale also set an auction record for a natural grey pearl necklace. The Cowdray Pearls, from the famed collection of Viscountess Cowdray, sold for $5.3m, beating the previous mark of $3.3m, set by the same item in 2012.
The deputy chairman of Sotheby's Asia, Quek Chin Yeow, commented: "The top ten lots show a great variety ranging from coloured stones, diamonds and pearls to jewels of aristocratic provenance, with coloured diamonds selling well over their high estimates."
