The Schmid & Muller Swatch collection has sold for $1.3m at Sotheby's Geneva.

The collection starred at the Important Watches sale on November 10.

Schmid and Muller were instrumental in creating Swatch's distinctive look

Bernard Muller and Marlyse Schmid were a pair of Swiss designers who helped create Swatch's unique style during the 1980s.

The collection included around 1,000 watches from the company's early history, including various technical drawings and prototypes.

Pedro Reiser, manager of Sotheby's watch department in Geneva, comments: "The pieces which make up the Schmid & Muller Collection are of huge significance.

"This completely unique and historic selection of timepieces, components and designs maps out the creative process during the fascinating early years of Swatch."

Bernard Muller explained: "Much like a rock band, from the very start this small core of people forged a very strong bond, and it was an explosion of creativity, collaboration and joy, with the aim of giving the very best of ourselves for this unique project."

The sale follows on from the auction earlier this year of a massive Swatch collection, consisting of over 5,000 watches, which sold for $6m at Sotheby's Hong Kong.

A Patek Philippe steel 5016A set a new world record for a watch at auction over the weekend.
