A cask of 1991 Macallan whisky has sold for $206,440 in Spink's July 4 auction of fine spirits in Hong Kong - a new world record for a cask of whisky.
The sale represents an increase of 146.1% on the previous record, which was set at $102,500 at Spink Hong Kong in April this year.
The barrel, which contains around 490 bottles, was brewed in the Moray area of Scotland, where the Macallan brand was founded in 1824.

The company is among the world's most prestigious scotch manufacturers and is growing rapidly in response to rising demand from the US and the BRIC nations.
Macallan holds the world record for whisky after a six-litre Macallan M decanter made $628,205 at Sotheby's Hong Kong in January this year.
