A number of large-format bottles will feature in Zachys Spring Auction.
Larger bottles can offer several advantages to collections: bigger bottles are ideal for aging great wines, as the lower ratio of air to liquid slows down and evens out the maturation process
And in terms of pure wine enjoyment, the grand spectacle of a larger bottle can offer rare pleasures.
Highlights at Zachys will include a Grands Echezeaux Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1995 (one methuselah measuring six litres) estimated at $5,000-8,000.
|
Also appearing is the Chateau Ausone 2005 in banded original wood case (one salmanazar, nine litres) which carries an estimate of $34,000-50,000.
Whether it is drinkability or investment that you are interested in, there is more to share and more to appreciate in a large-format bottling.
Zachys' sale will commence on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17, in New York. Online absentee bidding is available.
