The Macallan M Decanter, a Lalique-designed six-litre bottle of 64-year-old Macallan M, has realised $628,205 at Sotheby's Hong Kong - a new record for a bottle of whisky at auction.

The lot, one of just four ever made, achieved an increase of 21.7% on an estimate of $516,000 - smashing the previous record of $460,000, set by another Lalique-designed 64-year-old Macallan decanter, the smaller 1.5-litre Cire Pedue in 2010.
The record for whisky in a regular bottle is held by a rare 1955 Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts, which sold for $94,000 in 2012.
